There is much in common between the latest events in Venezuela and Ukraine. That's what Venezuelan political analyst Orlando Labrador said in an interview with the Voice of Russia.
It’s
the European Union and the United States. Their emissaries have
literally settled in Ukraine. It’s the same old thing: loud statements
about alleged human rights abuses and alleged attacks on the opposition,
threats of economic sanctions, and not a word about the Molotov
cocktails the "oppressed crowds" threw at law enforcers.
Is there anything in common between the current events in Venezuela and Ukraine?
In
both cases, the minority is speaking on behalf of the majority. Why do
they succeed? Because they are generously financed from abroad.
Extremists in both Venezuela and Ukraine live off the same sources. The
only difference between the two countries is how deep they have plunged
into chaos. In Ukraine, it is safe to speak about a coup d’etat, while
in Venezuela, the protesters are only just trying to destabilize the
situation.
Could you specify who exactly is behind the riots in Ukraine and Venezuela
What interests do the US and the EU pursue in Ukraine?
Their
key goal is to get closer to the Russian border. Without doubt, NATO
has plans to deploy missile defense weapons in Ukraine. And look at
Ukraine’s agricultural potential. It’s a country capable of feeding the
whole of Europe. And there’s one more thing: the Black Sea may prove to
be rich in oil and gas.
What do you think Russia wants in this situation?
Russia
wants stability and security, but that depends on which turn the events
in Ukraine will take. So far, things have taken a pretty bad turn. It’s
striking how much anti-Russian propaganda there is in Ukraine now and
how the West distorts the facts. One would think that the "Cold War"
times had been back. Of course, this is revenge against Russia - revenge
for its economic successes and fear that, together with China, it will,
sooner or later, offer strong competition to the existing global
centers, namely the US and the EU.
What lessons, in your opinion, can be drawn from the events in Ukraine?
The
strength of any nation lies in its unity and the commonness of goals.
Without that it cannot build a successful and prosperous society. If
radicals aren’t curbed, a country will soon have a puppet government
obedient to the West. Then, Ukraine will have to forget about its
national interests. People in Latin America are closely watching
developments in that country because similar scenarios are being plotted
for us as well. Protests in Venezuela are further proof of that.
